TYBEE ISLAND – Margaret Taylor Nelson, 93, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Memorial University Medical Center after a brief illness. Mrs. Nelson was born May 26, 1917 in Greenwood, SC to Robert Benjamin Taylor and Louise Pratt Taylor.
She was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church and the Couples Sunday School Class which was started by Margaret and her husband Frank and subsequently renamed the Nelson Sunday School Class in their honor. Mrs. Nelson worked for several years in the Chatham County Voter Registration Office. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many hours with the Tybee group.
Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of seventy years, T. Frank Nelson, a brother, Robert Earl Taylor, Sr., and a sister, Anne Hollingsworth Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda N. Rossiter and son-in-law, Dr. Francis P. Rossiter, Jr.; three grandchildren, Francis P. Rossiter III Sallyann of Decatur, GA, Ellen Rossiter Houpt Matt of Charlotte, NC, John J. Rossiter Stacy of Marietta, GA; five great-grandchildren, Caroline and Andrew Rossiter and Katie, Maggie, and Ben Houpt; a sister, Virginia T. Rushton of Greenville, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with Rev. William E. Gardner officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Remembrances may be made to Bull Street Baptist Church, 17 East Anderson St., Savannah, GA 31401, or a charity of your choice.
